April 7, 2008 - Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment
COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio Department of Taxation’s Enforcement Division is holding a public comment period on April 28 as part of the division’s triennial accreditation assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).
The CALEA assessment team is seeking input from both the citizens served by the agency as well as from Enforcement Division’s employees. Interested persons can submit their comments to the assessment team on Monday, April 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. by calling a toll-free number, (866) 227-0004.
This comment period is one component of the accreditation process that begins April 26 when the CALEA assessment team arrives at the Enforcement Division site, located at the department’s Columbus Northland facility. The team will examine all aspects of the division’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
Verification by the team that the Enforcement Division meets CALEA standards is part of a voluntary process to gain re-accreditation. This status, defined by CALEA as practicing a modern management model for advancing public safety professionalism, is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence by agencies nationwide.
The Ohio Department of Taxation Law Enforcement Division is the only state tax law enforcement agency to achieve CALEA accreditation. The division was re-accredited in 2005.
Telephone comments will be taken by the assessment team, consisting of Lt. Col. (Ret.) Darrel E. Stilwell, Team Leader, and Mr. John B. Dankel, Team Member. Comments are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.
A copy of these standards is available by contacting the Enforcement Division, 4485 Northland Ridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43229. The local contact is Susan Kusan, Accreditation Manager, at 614-466-6939.
Persons can also offer written comments about the Enforcement Division’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation. Comments can be submitted to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100 Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.
