Getting Started

  • NEW  2011 Small Business Workshops —  New or prospective small business owners and self-employed persons can learn about their tax rights and responsibilities by attending one of these Small Business Tax Workshops.
  • 1st Stop Business Connection — This Web site, maintained by the Department of Development, is designed to help businesses get started or grow.
  • 2008 Ohio Business Tax Guide (PDF) — This Department of Taxation publication is specifically designed to answer many of the tax questions posed by individuals trying to start or grow a business.
  • Obtain a FEIN — Businesses that do not have a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) should obtain one from the IRS.
  • Obtain a vendor's license:
  • The Finder —This online tool is designed to identify the sales, municipal income, and school district income tax rates in effect for every address in the state.
  • Ohio Unemployment Compensation Guide — This publication, prepared by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, addresses wage reporting, taxes, benefits and other issues.
